Solar electricity : the solar panels on the main house generate seven times as much energy as we use ourselves. The installation pays for itself in around 12 years. See also information on energy. |
Photovoltaic installations The life of this technology is 25 - 30 years, with only slight reduction in performance over the years. The electricity we generate is fed into the national grid (power network) at a fixed price. The electricity we use from the grid is billed by the eco power cooperative.

We are actually using our own electricity - provided of course the sun is shining or sufficient radiation and light from the sun penetrate the clouds.
Private solar electricity installation
Our main residence and the guest house each have a set of photovoltaic panels to generate electricity. On the main house they measure approximately 40 m², which is enough to provide seven times the amount of electricity we ourselves need. All the electricity goes to the energy supplier Enedis at a feed-in tariff that is fixed for 20 years. The PV installations pay for themselves in around 12 years. In summer the maximum production is 65 Kw/h per day. Taking both roofs together, approximately 17 000 kilowatt hours are generated annually. Of course, in winter the generation falls to about 25% of the summer level. At the moment we are thinking about installing battery storage of electricity to further raise our self-sufficiency in energy use.Solar power for the guest house
Since 2018 we have had a 12 m² solar panel installation on the guest house. It generates about 4000 Kw/h a year, with peak performance at approximately 3 Kw.
