External insulation : at Ecoprovence we use natural materials like wood, stone, gypsum, glass and metal. We do not use chipboard, plastic, polystyrene etc. in order not to expose ourselves to off-gassing and later problems of disposal (especially of polystyrene). |
The external render on a house has to withstand all kinds of weather over many years. In the case of insulation systems, it is tested and certified together with the substrate (insulation boards) in laboratories. Since the render also contains some synthetic material it is flexible and durable. Having used the UDI system for more than six years we can recommend it without reservation. The external rendering work does however have to be carried out by a professional.Wood fibre Insulation boards 
When we renovated the main house we paid particular attention to both external insulation and loft Insulation. A specialist firm attached 12cm thick wood fibre insulation boards, produced by UDI-Therm ▶Udidaemmsysteme.com, to the outside of the building and when this technically demanding work was completed they finished off with a very attractive yellow render. Roof overhang
When insulating the facade of a house windows and the roof overhang often present technical problems. If there is no roof projection you have to create one using timber and bricks or metal. In our case sheets of zinc were fixed to the roof to make an overhang of 15 - 20cm. If you are installing new windows they are ideally placed half way along the soffit.
